The Demise Of The Creative Genius

At strtgst's January 2020 Town Hall, I spoke in front of an audience of 90 people about the hope that advertising will stop tolerating the egos of so-called “creative geniuses” and start valuing teamwork, compassion, and inclusion instead. Creativity should never come at the expense of other people.

The F Word: Femvertising and the Future of Feminism

From Dove’s “Real Beauty” and Always’ “Like A Girl,” femvertising is everywhere and brands are cashing in. After decades of advertising that perpetuated gender stereotypes, this trend of empowering content feels like a breath of fresh air.

The rise of femvertising corresponds with a larger movement in pop culture towards a mainstream embrace of feminism. #Feminism began to show up in internet memes, fashion, and entertainment. And it wasn’t long before marketers spotted this trend and began creating ads that were hailed as feminist, too.

The reality however is that feminism is more than a hashtag. And brands’ interpretation of feminism doesn’t always meet the mark. Through this conversation, I dove into the good and the bad of femvertising with the aim of expanding awareness and understanding of what feminism is and why it matters in our culture, our industry, and our work.

Speaking OUT

You may have noticed that the conversation around the LGBTQ+ demographic seems to be getting more and more complex every single day. And as big thinkers, it’s our job to understand exactly how to guide the work we do for our big brands to successful, meaningful new heights in this space. So, it’s high time to speak up about speaking out.

In this talk, I take you through the A-B-Cs of all things LGBTQ+ and discuss the good, the bad and the fabulous work coming out of the industry.
